For Authors

Thurgood Marshall Law Review welcomes manuscripts offering new, scholarly thought on any legal topic. All submissions should adhere to the guidelines below.

How to submit: All submissions should be submitted via Scholastica in an electronic format easily convertible to Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word is the preferred format. Portable Document Format (“PDF”) is not permitted.

Submission Requirements: All submissions should comply with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020) and The Greenbook: Texas Rules of Form (15th ed. 2022). All submissions should include a cover sheet with the author’s name, mailing address, email address, phone number, word count, page length, and short description of the manuscript’s legal topic.

The manuscript should include a table of contents and a table of authorities.

The manuscript must include a minimum of 100 footnotes—endnotes will not be accepted. The sources cited must be the result of a minimum of 20 sources comprising of the following: 5 sources from other Law Review Articles, 5 book sources, 5 sources to case law, and 5 other sources of the author’s choosing.

Word Count and Page Length: Submitted manuscripts must meet a 15 full pages of substantive text page length minimum. There is no word count requirement. While there is no word count requirement, we believe that a word count approximating 20,000 words enhances the quality of our publication.

Formatting: Body of the work: typed single-spaced, 12-point font size, Times New Roman font, fully justified, and 1-inch margins.

Footnotes: typed single-spaced, 10-point font size, Times New Roman font, left side justified, and 1-inch margins.

Expedited Request: We accept expedited request from authors.

Offers of Publication: All publication offers and decision letters will be sent to the authors via Scholastica. Authors will be given 72 hours to decide if they will accept the publication offer.
